Top Tips for Carpet Care & Cleaning | Quantum Cleaning Hacks

As aesthetically beautiful and functional as they may seem, have you ever stopped to think about what could be lurking in your carpets and rugs? Recent studies have estimated that carpets can be 4,000 times dirtier than a toilet bowl, and that’s not including the potential dust mites, insects, pollen and mold that many carpets collect.

In order to minimise the spread of harmful bacteria, regular cleaning is a must. Here are some simple yet effective tips for perfect carpet maintenance:

Upgrade Your Vacuum Routine

Traditional vacuums use paper, synthetic, and HEPA filters to pick up dirt and debris, which over time clog up and become less efficient. With traditional vacuums, the more you use them, the less they work. Filters are also known to be breeding grounds for germs, bacteria, and viruses.

Investing in a high quality water filtration vacuum like the Quantum X is a great way to extend the lifespan of your carpets, whilst diminishing the accumulation of dirt and debris from your carpet fibres that quickly spread around the home.

With a sturdy reliable vacuum in hand, create a habit of vacuuming often with a greater focus on high traffic areas; such as the feet of your sofa, your dining area and doorways. Be sure to also pay attention to inaccessible corners and areas which are regularly missed when cleaning the home. Unhealthy bacteria often settles behind your television unit, under the bed and around your house plants. Using the Quantum X Water Filtration Vacuum’s 18” Telescoping Head will help to clean these hard to reach areas.

Stubborn Stain Removal

We may have covered the basics of home health and carpet cleanliness, but accidents and spillages do still happen!

Maybe your beloved pet ran riot around the home after a muddy walk.  Or that gathering you hosted over the holidays resulted in one or two spillages of the dreaded Vino. The moment anything is spilt on your carpets or furnishings, it should be tended to immediately; stains will become far more difficult to remove once dried.

If the stain is liquid, soak it up! A simple paper towel is great in this instance. Ensure to blott the surface area rather than wipe to minimise the spread. Follow this by sprinkling a generous amount of salt, let this sit for an hour before vacuuming with your Quantum X Water Filtration Vacuum (great at picking up both wet and dry spills!).

For more solid stains, use the back of a knife to scrape it away. If this fails to remove the stubborn substance, mix up a tablespoon of vinegar in a litre of water and pour this over the area to soak.  After a couple of minutes, rinse the area with clean water and let dry before vacuuming over.

General Care

There are many other ways to improve your carpet maintenance alongside vacuuming and stain management. For example, to keep the colors of your rugs vibrant, try not to place them in direct sunlight, and avoid using harsh products when cleaning that could damage your carpets irreparably.

Another (often overlooked) issue is the damage that heavy objects and plants can cause. Heavy houseplants that require regular watering can not only ruin the fibres shape they are sat on, but any damp leakages from the vase can create mold and stains. This damaged carpet remains unseen under the vase until it is too late to save.

Last but very not least, remove outdoor shoes before walking into your home. There is plenty of scientific research floating around that supports this practise - keep both visible dirt and invisible germs away!

So there we have it, carpet care and cleaning may require time and financial investment, but regular maintenance will ensure you are living in a healthy environment and allow your carpets and rugs to keep their vigour for much longer.
